IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Nelson
Runge
August 25, 1938 – October 3, 2024
John Nelson of Loveland, OH. Passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024 at the age of 86.
Beloved husband of Kathy (nee Klusman) Runge. Dear father of Susie (Geoff) Edwards and Tricia (Ron) Mazuk. Loving grandfather of Megan and Greg Edwards and Ronnie and Sam Mazuk. Brother of Joan (late John) Morgan and Kim Runge.
Nelson graduated from Sycamore High School in 1958, and has remained friends with classmate and football teammate, Stan Seigla. Nelson and Kathy married in 1961, and recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary. During most of his life, he was owner and president of Midwest Equipment Company, with Kathy Shafor serving as office manager for many of those years. In his younger days, he enjoyed photography and camping in their Airstream. This led to him filming and videotaping multiple sports at Loveland High School for over 20 years. He also enjoyed trains, was a member of the Cincinnati Railroad Club, and loved taking train rides. Although he had a gruff exterior, he had a kind, caring heart. Over the years, Nelson was an active volunteer with many organizations, including the Cincinnati Chapter of the Kidney Foundation and the Wally Byam Airstream Club. He was an avid supporter of Susie and Tricia, and was proud of their accomplishments. He served as a role-model for his sons-in-law, Geoff and Ron. Once he and Kathy were empty nesters, they travelled extensively. The Airstream was traded in for a motorhome and they travelled out West, as well as spent some time in wintering in Texas and Florida. They also loved cruising and took 27 cruises to various parts of the world visiting ports in North America, South America, Europe and Australia. He was known to his grandchildren as Grampie, and loved spending time with them and going to their various activities from sporting events to orchestra concerts. As he got older, Nelson spent more time reading and watching Amazon Prime on his iPad.
Services will be private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions in Nelson's memory can be directed towards the American Diabetes Association.
