Obituary

Joan Bernadette McCabe Hall, also known as Coach Joan Hall, 77 years of age, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 18th, 2014, after a courageous fight with a brief but insurmountable illness. She was married to Jim (James Clark) Hall for 54 years and was The Love of His Life, as he was hers. Joan grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, as most people know since she always said, "You can take the kid out of Providence, Rhode Island but you never take Providence, Rhode Island out of the kid!" Joan's family moved across country to California when she was a teenager. It was there that she eventually worked at Procter & Gamble in Los Angeles, met Jim and began a family of her own before moving to Cincinnati. For over 50 years Joan has resided in Sharonville, Ohio, first in a home where she raised her three children until they all went to college, then in a home she and her family enjoyed as a special family retreat. Joan was an accomplished Transactional Analysis counselor and ran her own successful counseling business for several decades up to the time of her death. She held a degree from Xavier University, and taught courses on interpersonal communication for school districts, corporations and other organizations. She was most proud of her husband and family, and considered them her greatest accomplishments. Joan was passionate about life, learning and service to others. Joan loved traveling the world with Jim. Over the years she loved volunteering for her children's activities in school and the community. Many will never forget her endeavors as a Brownie/Girl Scout leader or repeatedly organizing the Mouse House to raise awareness and funds for children with learning disabilities! Joan also loved learning to paint, reading, walking at the recreation center, which was usually a ploy to get people to the rec center so she could beat them at ping pong, swimming laps in her pool, gardening, and taking adventurous road trips, with or without a plan! Joan had a loving, compassionate, giving spirit and sense of humor that will be with us always. Happy Trails Joanie! Joan is survived by her loving husband James Clark Hall, Dr. Marie-Elena Hall(Carolyn), Michael Grant Hall (Dena), and is preceded in death by her son James Clark Hall, Jr. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17th, 2014 at the Sharonville Recreation Center, 12:00noon to 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity that was dear to Joan's heart and provides assistance to children in the Cincinnati area. Please mail donations to Neediest Kids of All, P.O. Box 636666, Cincinnati OH 45263-6666 or submit donations online at www.neediestkidsofall.com.
