IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan Frances
Byrne
October 17, 1936 – March 11, 2023
Joan Frances Byrne, age 86, of Loveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 11,
2023 after bravely battling Alzheimer's Disease.
Joan was born in Augusta, Kentucky on October 17, 1936, the beautiful daughter of Elmer and
Frances Lacey and adoring big sister of Larry Lacey. She is the loving mother of three children
and devoted wife of over 50 years to Charles Byrne.
Although Joan always felt strongly connected to her roots in Augusta, she found a new home in
Cincinnati where she also met her best friend, Charles in 1963. The following year, Joan and
Charles were married and, in their union, created a family of three children, Michael, Kimberly
and David and later welcomed five grandchildren, Nick, Connor, Jordan, Jennifer and Grant to
their family. Joan deeply loved God and her faith. She was an active parishioner for over 30
years at The Community of the Good Shephard Catholic Church where she volunteered with the
prayer ministry in devotion to Mary. God blessed Joan with many gifts - an incredibly kind and
compassionate heart, a sweet, selfless soul, and a brilliant mind as well as the ability to
beautifully balance her career and the good work she did at Junior Achievement with raising a
family. Joan's most cherished gift was her family who she loved and cared for wholeheartedly.
And Joan was immensely loved by her family and friends.
Joan enjoyed celebrating special occasions and creating loving memories. She was an all-time
world's best apple, pecan and pumpkin pie baker, birthday cake with homemade fudge icing
maker and everyone could always count on a warm welcome to her home. Joan enjoyed playing
bridge for many years and thoroughly enjoyed sports of all sorts. She was a big fan of the
Cincinnati Reds and Bengals and University of Kentucky Basketball and the biggest fan of all
for her kids and grandkids, always available to cheer them on and offer words of encouragement
and support. Joan truly knew how to make anyone feel loved and special. In her final few years,
Joan was well cared for by a wonderful staff at Angel's Care and team at Queen City Hospice.
In the end, although Alzheimer's diminished her thoughts and memories, Joan's heart remained
full of love and patience. She has now returned home with God where her eternal peace and
harmony have been restored. Joan was an amazing woman, a wonderful wife, mother,
grandmother and friend. She will be incredibly missed by all and leaves behind many loved ones
who will forever cherish her dear memories including her loving sons Michael (Melissa) Byrne
and David Byrne, daughter Kimberly Persiani, Grandsons Connor Byrne, Grant Persiani and
Nick Persiani and Granddaughters Jordan Byrne and Jennifer Persiani. She is preceded in death
by many loved ones including her beloved husband Charles Byrne, father and mother Elmer and
Frances Lacey, father and mother-in-law Harold and Sally, brother Larry Lacey and many aunts,
uncles, sisters-in-law, brother-in law and nephew.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday March 15 at The Community of the
Good Shepherd at 8815 East Kemper Road Cincinnati, Ohio.
Burial services will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
