She Believed She Could, So She Did
Jen loved sports. In elementary school she played softball, volleyball, basketball, soccer and ran track. Her love of soccer lasted thru high school, college and her adult years. It was nothing unusual for her to play two or three games on a weekend night. As an adult she achieved a black belt in Tai Chi and was a member of the Anaya Belly Dancing Troupe.
Jen believed in the power of science. Her undergrad degree at Wittenburg University was in biology. Her first master degree was in environmental science at the University of Illinois at Springfield and her second masters was in zoology from Miami University, Ohio. She worked for several environmental safety companies both in Chicago, Illinois and here in Cincinnati, Ohio.
One of Jen's outstanding traits was her ability to make friends. She remained close to a wide circle of friends from both her high school and college years. Her dance girls and soccer friends were very important to her. She was always active and had a smile on her face.
Jen lived to travel. As a junior at McAuley High School she traveled to Australia, New Zealand, and the Great Barrier Reef. As a junior at Wittenburg she was an international student for four months in Finland. Before returning home, she visited Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungry, Lithuania, Norway, Russia, and Sweden. She studied cheetahs in Namibia in Africa as part of her master's program. Lastly, she made four trips to South America where she met the man who she would marry, Richard Amable.
Richard Amable was the love of her life who brought her all the joy and contentment in the world. They were blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Oliviero. Oliviero shares characteristics from both parents. He is very interested in nature like his dad and loves to giggle and laugh like his mom.
Jen was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer three years ago. She fought a long hard battle. Four weeks before her death she was still planning and making home improvements and planning a trip to take her son to Disneyland in Florida. She worked up to two weeks before her death. She was a strong, courageous, generous, kind and loving wife, mother, friend, sister, and daughter. Her life brought joy to so many and her death will be felt with grief by many. Rest in peace Jennifer Johnson Amable.
Jen leaves behind her husband Richard Amable, her five-year-old son Oliviero Amable, her parents Tom and Sue Johnson, her younger sister Cindy Johnson and her older sister Nikkie Johnson Davis, brother-in-law Eric Davis and nephews Christopher and Alexander Davis.
