KIEFFER, Jean Frances (nee Hutsell). Devoted and beloved wife for 51 of Jack D. Kieffer, deceased 2005. Resident since 1989 of Warren County's Deerfield Township, she was the mother of John (Jak) Kieffer (Shelley), Nina Kieffer (Gary Weiler), Sissi Kieffer, Kitty Kieffer Schweikert (Carl), Joe Kieffer (deceased) and widow Jodie Kieffer, and Jud Kieffer (deceased). She was the doting grandmother of Aisa Claybon (Michael), Dan (Shiloh) Kieffer, Zak Kieffer, Nanje Schweikert, Michelle Recker (Patrick), Jamie Klug (Suzie) and Matt Schweikert; great grandmother of Alexa and Charles Claybon, George J. Kieffer and Benjamin Liam Mick. She had many cousins including dear friend Dr. Pat O'Reilly, nieces and nephews in numerous locations around the U.S. and in Europe including Clare Borries a most beloved and favorite niece.
Born December 19, 1934 and raised in Norwood, Ohio. Jean was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Nock Hutsell. The third of ten children, she was the sister of the late Pauline Wheeler., Betty Greene of Stafford, VA. The late Pat Beatty of Escondido, CA., the late Peggy Day of San Rafael, CA., Nick Hutsell (Callie) and Dave Hutsell of Houston, TX, Kathy Beresford of Covington, KY, Su Holloway of Norwood, OH. and the late infant Helen Hutsell.
Employed for 31 years at General Electric Aviation in Evendale and Springdale (where she met cherished friend Kathy Ward), she retired in 1993 from a senior administrator post in which since 1979 she had written and administered field service policy and compensation while traveling extensively on the job to visit and consult with field service employees at their military and commercial work sites in the U.S., Europe and Asia. A retired ELFUN and Gereralette, she served as president of the GE Retirees' Association.
Loveland, Ohio was the Kieffer's home from 1957 to 1989, and Jean worked in local school and civic organizations during that time. Active in PTA's, scouting, and the Loveland Youth Organization, she served in a variety of offices and as coach and director for girl's and women's softball teams and leagues. She was elected to the Loveland City School District Board of Education, serving a four-year term from 1976 through 1979. In 1981 and 1982, Jean was Cincinnati NOW's Media Rep and worked on their ERA Countdown Campaign team. She subsequently served for several years as a director of Southern Ohio Women's Equity Action League. Jean was active in planning the 50th and 55th reunions of the class of 1948 from St. Matthew School in Norwood and the 50th and 55th reunions of the class of 1952 from St. Mary High School in Hyde Park.
Invited to join the Zonta Club of Cincinnati in 1987 through her aunt Jean Nock herself a Zontian for more than forty years Jean devoted many hours to participating actively as an officer and director of the club (president 1992-94 and 2004-06) and lately served as an area director (1998-2000) and as secretary (2000 2002) of Zonta International District 5 Board which connects Zonta clubs in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, driving to many locations throughout the district. In her public life Jean lived by the motto, she learned from her mother: "Doing well is my job; doing good is my joy." She attended Zonta International Conventions in Hong Kong, Detroit, St. Louis and Paris. She was proud to have sponsored as members Delores Epps, K Buckler, Jean Beirise and Terri Purtee-Stein who brought special qualities to their many roles in Zonta.
Although she enjoyed traveling and touring homes and gardens around the world, she also enjoyed many quiet hours landscaping and planting flowers and chopping weeds in her own yard, humming the tune of "The bird with feathers of blue/Is waiting for you/Back in your own backyard!"
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jean Kieffer to the Zonta Club of Cincinnati, PO Box 428546, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242. A Celebration of Jean's life will be held at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 1668 St. Rt. 28, Goshen, 45122, Saturday, October 20 with the visitation beginning at 1 PM and the Celebration at 2 PM.
