Obituary

Janet “Jan” McGrath passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13th, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to Allie and Frank Hodges and was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan.

Jan met her husband, Edward McGrath, in Cincinnati where she worked as a dental hygienist. They married in 1960 and started a family. After several moves, they settled in the Columbus suburb of Worthington, where Jan would reside in Worthington Hills for over fifty years. Jan’s dear husband, Ed, passed away in 1978 and she continued raising their two daughters. She then began a career at Blue Cross/Blue Shield where she worked until 1996. In the following years she was a volunteer at Riverside Methodist Hospital and the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop. In Jan’s last few years, she lived in Cincinnati at the Twin Lakes Community of Montgomery, where she was surrounded by wonderful residents and caretakers.

Throughout Jan’s life, family was her greatest joy. She particularly loved traveling with her daughters’ families, and her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jim Mackin, of Potomac, Maryland.

Along with Jan’s husband, Edward McGrath, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Don Hodges and Carol Mackin. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Barb (Brian) Hudock and Susan (Dan) Fleming; her four granddaughters, Allie(Derek)Parker, Megan Fleming, Kaitlyn (Cameron) Hunt and Lauren Fleming (Patrick O’Gara); and her great granddaughter, Molly Parker. Jan was a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished ”Bacca”, who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Benevolent Care at Twin Lakes through the Life Enriching Communities Foundation. Checks can be made out to the LEC Foundation and delivered to 9840 Montgomery Rd , Cincinnati 45242.
