Janet graduated in 1934 from the University of Chicago, B.S., Phi Beta Kappa; in 1971 from Boston University, M.Ed. in adult education and human relations. She was inducted into the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame in 1990 for her lifetime of contributions to the advancement of women. In 1942 Janet joined the Grail, an international women's movement, rooted in Christian faith and committed to the transformation of the world into a global community of justice and peace. In 1944 she co-founded Grailville, an education and retreat center in Loveland, Ohio, where she developed a series of residential programs that offered women an experiential education integrating spirituality with concern for women, social justice, ecology, music and the arts. Janet worked with the Grail Women's Task Force to invite feminist theologians to dialogue and worship together, including the 1982 Women's Spirit Bonding Conference at Grailville. From 1972 to 1986 she served as Associate Director of the Self-Directed Learning Program at the University of Dayton. Janet's perspective on the history of the US Grail was published in 1999: Women Breaking Boundaries, A Grail Journey, 1940-1995. She worked with women's groups that rehabbed two run-down Cincinnati school buildings to become affordable housing communities. Janet lived independently until she moved to SEM Haven in 2011.
Janet is survived by a niece and three nephews.
