IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet A.
Everett
January 26, 1944 – February 11, 2025
With hearts both heavy and grateful, we celebrate the life of Janet A. Everett (nee Wuenker)—a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, dedicated teacher, and faithful servant of Christ. Jan, of Loveland, Ohio, passed away on February 11, 2025, at the age of 81, after courageously battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
She was the dearly loved wife of Richard Everett, with whom she shared 57 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and a deep love for nature's beauty. She was the devoted mother of Scott R. (Angie) Everett and Laura A. (Erik) Bowling, and the proud, adoring grandmother of Peter Everett, Hannah Everett, Ethan Everett, Benjamin Everett, grandkitties Peaches and Zuzu, Sarah Bowling, Jonah Bowling, and grandpuppy Cali. Jan was a loving sister to Richard Wuelly and Carol (Mike) Hesterberg, and she held close many nieces, nephews, and cousins who brought her great joy.
Born on January 26, 1944, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Roger and Virginia (Lally) Wuenker, Jan grew up with a heart for learning and a love of people. A proud graduate of Sycamore High School, she found joy in keeping her classmates connected, helping to plan their reunions for years. From a young age, Jan knew she was called to be a teacher, a calling she pursued with excellence. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Cincinnati and later, in a special milestone, received her Master of Education from Miami University in 1992—the same day her son, Scott, graduated from Miami.
Jan and Dick built a home filled with faith, laughter, and love. Jan took time away from full-time teaching to raise Scott and Laura, never missing a moment to nurture, encourage, and guide them. She served as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, a trusted presence in their schools, and a steadfast supporter of all their endeavors. She also made time to substitute teach at Loveland Schools when she could.
But perhaps her greatest professional impact came when she became a founding teacher at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (CHCA) when its doors opened in 1989. She lived and believed in the vision of the school. Jan didn't just teach kindergarten—she built a program, a foundation, and a legacy of love. Her students were her joy; she loved who they were and saw the best in every single child who walked through her door. She delighted in their curiosity, encouraged their spirits, and made them believe in themselves. She shared her love of nature, teaching children about birds, learning through bald eagle cams, and the wonders of the outdoors. Families, not just students, were forever changed by her kindness and encouragement. She recently heard from many of her former students and their families and was incredibly touched by their stories of her impact. The CHCA community was so very dear to her.
Beyond the classroom, Jan's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of Faith Bible Church, where she sang in the choir, participated in Bible studies and women's groups, attended monthly Senior Luncheons, took mission trips, and joyfully organized gatherings like The Ladies Connection (TLC Group) and the Adult Potluck Suppers (APLS Group). She thrived in fellowship and the teachings there and found deep joy in learning and sharing God's word.
Jan's love for nature was woven into every part of her life. She found peace in birdwatching, camping (Hocking Hills was a favorite!), hiking, and traveling with Dick, visiting National and State parks. Whether cruising the high seas or boating on a lake, walking in the woods, admiring waterfalls, or simply enjoying a sunset, she saw God's beauty in creation. She had a special gift for making friends wherever she went, especially if they had a dog. She never knew a stranger—just friends she hadn't met yet.
Her favorite flower, the purple iris, was a living connection to her mother, and she found joy in growing flowers and sharing "baby irises" from her garden with loved ones. And, of course, her family knew that no visit to Granny's house was complete without the warm, welcoming aroma of her famous homemade "Granny Bread," made from scratch with love. She delighted in teaching her grandchildren how to bake everything from scratch, passing down not just recipes but treasured memories. Memories also made as "Wanna Play a Game" rang through the house. She loved family game nights!
Above all, Jan's greatest joys in life came from her family and her love for the Lord. She lived with an unwavering faith, a boundless heart, and an infectious joy that brightened every life she touched. She was a person of sunshine. She always saw the best in people.
A Celebration of Jan's Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Faith Bible Church, 8130 E Kemper Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249. In honor of Jan's love for bright, uplifting colors, our family encourages guests to wear blue, her favorite color, or any cheerful hue that reflects the vibrancy of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jan's honor to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or an organization of your choice.
Jan's life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, and joy—a light that will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her. She has now entered into the arms of her Savior, hearing the words she lived her life to receive:
"Well done, good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:23)
