Obituary

Bob Schmank, 92, died on August 27, 2024, surrounded by his wife of 72 years, Judy (Kuhn) Schmank, his five children and several of his grandchildren. Bob was born on August 15, 1932, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Joseph F. And Catherine L. (Walter) Schmank.

Bob and his family left Portsmouth after the historic Ohio River Flood of 1937 and settled in Wauwatosa, WI. It was there Bob met the love of his life, Judy (Kuhn) Schmank, and they began their long life together. The Schmanks added five children to the family as they moved throughout the Midwest, living in Wisconsin, Indiana and Missouri. The family moved to the Cincinnati area in 1981, living in Mongomery and Lebanon before joining the Seasons retirement community in Kenwood in 2020.

Bob enjoyed a long career with Benjamin Moore Paint Company where he was a sales executive. In 1981 Bob and Judy acquired the Miller Bros. Paint & Wallpaper Company where they operated 11 stores in the greater Cincinnati area. Bob was proud of the business and its employees and enjoyed getting to know and help his customers. He especially loved having Judy's and his son Mike's involvement in the business along with the help of all his children in various roles.

Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Bob and Judy's five children, their children's spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all dearly loved, and they all loved Dad/Grandpa/Papa Bob right back. Bob had a gentle and kind spirit and always put the needs of others before his own. He was a hard worker and a gentle, just man. The example he set for his family will not be forgotten.

Bob's Catholic faith was an important part of his life, and he was a dedicated participant in all aspects of parish life, he supported parish administration, and lead youth group activities, assisted with facilities and grounds maintenance, service as Eucharistic Minister, usher and many other volunteer activities. He loved his faith and was dedicated to St. Joseph.

Bob is survived by his wife Judy, his five children: Susie McDonald, Jim (Madge), Mike (Barb), Katie, and Judy (Patrick) McGowan; 15 grandchildren: Beth (Nick) Fassler, Chris, Bobby, Molly, John, MC, Aggie (Cam) Clark, Michael, Susie, Linda (Ben) Frederick, Maggie Stoll, Judy (Mike) Maloy, Katie (Drew) DeLorenzo, Kevin McGowan and Maggie McGowan; and five great-grandchildren: Alice Fassler; Winona, Silas and Corrie Frederick; and Molly Clark.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Louise (Walter); his father, Joseph Francis; his brother, Joseph David; and his sister, Mary Ann Wilkinson.
