On February 8, 2022, James Hoyt Miller II, a 45-year resident of Montgomery, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He will be missed by his beloved wife of 66 years, Patricia McGuire Miller, and his children James H. Miller III (Jodi Geiser), Nancy Miller, Peter Miller (Susan Curtin) and Suzanne Doisneau (Paul Doisneau). Jim is also survived by nine grandchildren: Daniel, Jeffrey, Frank, David, Timothy and Katherine Miller and Anne, John and Peter Doisneau, as well as two great-grandchildren, Allison and Emilia Miller. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Florence Miller, his sister Suzanne Moon, his brothers Richard and Jack, and his grandson James H. Miller IV.
Jim was born on September 27, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio and was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a graduate of Western Reserve Academy, the University of Toledo, and the University of Michigan (MBA) and spent over three decades in the paper industry. He was a gentle, kind and fun-loving man who loved his wife and children dearly. Family meant everything to him. As the last surviving child of his parents, Jim enjoyed his role of patriarch to his extended family and appreciated the kindnesses of his nieces and nephews and their children, especially in his later years.
Jim enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including golf, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, volunteering, and his senior coffee groups. He was determined not to be left behind in the computer age and had a Facebook account before some of his grandchildren.
Shaken to the core by his grandson's death, James IV, an Army medic killed in 2005 in Iraq, Jim became a regular visitor to Jimmy's grave site, decorating it each time with American flags that he kept in bulk in the trunk of his car and ending each visit with a salute. The image of Jim saluting Jimmy's grave is imprinted in the memory of each member of his family. Jim will be buried in Gate of the Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery next to his beloved grandson.
Visitation prior to Jim's funeral will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 14th at The Community of Good Shepherd's Community Room (8815 E. Kemper Road in Montgomery) with his funeral following at Noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to Homes for our Troops, 6 Main Street, Taunton, MA 02780, www.hfotusa.org or to the Community of Good Shepherd.
