Obituary

J. Darrel Beeker 71, Loveland, Ohio, and longtime Columbus, Indiana resident, passed away at 7:39 P.M. Tuesday February 17, 2015 at Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born on February 4, 1944, in Washington, Indiana, the son of Ora and Rita (Ainscough) Beeker. On July 2, 1966 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Washington, Indiana, he married Diane K. McGookey and she survives. Mr. Beeker retired after thirty two years of service from Cummins Inc., Columbus, Indiana. He had been active at All Saints Catholic School for many years serving as coach and athletic director in the 1970's and 1980's. He was a long time member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, and had been a member of the Columbus Optimist Club serving as club president and Lt. Governor. He had also been a member of the Kiwanis Club and Jaycees and after retirement volunteered at Love Chapel Food Pantry. In 2011, he and Diane moved to the Cincinnati, Ohio area to be closer to family, where he was an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. In his spare time, he was an avid miniature car collector, enjoyed woodworking and love to watch westerns. Survivors include his wife, Diane K. Beeker, Loveland, Ohio, sons, Derek and wife Giselle Beeker, Loveland, Ohio, Darin and wife Sue Beeker, Rochester, Indiana, Devin Beeker, Grand Rapids, Michigan, grandchildren, Kyleigh Beeker, Rochester, Indiana, Diego and Nigel Beeker, Loveland, Ohio, brothers, Melvin and wife Phyllis Beeker, Seymour, Indiana, Harry and wife Carol Beeker, Columbus, Indiana, Ray and wife Catherine Beeker, Bloomington, Indiana, sisters, Frances Allen, Shrewsbury, Missouri, Sandy and husband Howard Sowl, Avon, Indiana, brother-in-laws, James and wife Cindy McGookey, Huntingburg, Indiana, Robert and Beth McGookey, Washington, Indiana, sister-in-law, Delores Beeker, Evansville, Indiana, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kenneth Beeker and Marlin Beeker and brother-in-law, Henry Allen. Friends may call from 3-6 PM on Sunday, February 22 at Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home, 129 N Riverside Ave, Loveland, OH 45140. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday, February 23 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 E. Kemper Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249, friends may call from 9 AM until Mass. Friends may call Monday, February 23 from 3-4 PM with entombment to follow at Garland Brook Cemetery, 501 N Gladstone, Columbus, IN 47201.
