Ivan E. Morse of Cincinnati. Beloved husband of 62 years to Evangeline M. (nee Straver) Morse. Loving father of Catherine (Rick) Slack, Christine (David) Breheim, and Michael (Keasha) Morse. Proud grandfather of Andrew (Courtney) Slack, Michael (Lauren Kranak) Slack, Bethany (Peter Wagreich) Slack, Samuel Breheim, Joseph Breheim, Nicole (Nate) Baker, Roxanne (Randy) Smaga, Joshua (Elena) Morse, Bethany Meier, Katie Mangold, and Sarah Mangold. Great grandfather of 6. Dear brother of Dorothy (the late Larry) Bender, Barbara (Joe) Orlando, Helen Jean (the late Chuck) Chisholm, and the late Frank Morse. Brother-in-law of Cris Morse. Passed away March 12, 2014 at age 88.
He was born in Fountain Michigan in 1925, to Ivan and Esther Morse. Graduated from Custer High School. After graduation, he entered the Navy. He served as a Machinist Mate 3C. After the Navy, he attended Michigan State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1950; MS in 1954. In 1961, he received his PhD from Purdue University. He was an associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State from 1950-1961, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of Cincinnati from 1964-1993. Also serving as Head of ME Department from 1979-1989. He received many honors and awards, served as a consultant to Nelson Industries, and was awarded outstanding educator in Mechanical Engineering Department in 1975, 1979, 1991. He was widely published and participated in many research projects. He co-authored a textbook "Mechanical Vibrations" that was widely used. In the preface of the book, he stated the books purpose was "to enhance engineering so that students could understand and solve the problems."
He loved to spend his summers at his home in Fountain Michigan. There he fished, tinkered in his garage with is brother, and rode around on his tractor. Most important to him was the time he spend with his family and friends.
Family and friends will be received from 12-1 PM on Saturday, March 29 at Sycamore Presbyterian Church, 11800 Mason Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249, where services will be held at 1 PM. Burial was held privately at Arlington Memorial Gardens.
