Hugh V. Firor, M.D., 83, passed away Sept. 24 after a long illness. Born in Athens, GA., he was a loving father, dedicated pediatric surgeon and teacher, last serving as Chairman of the Department of Surgery for the University of Illinois in Peoria where he retired in 1997. He previously practiced at the Cleveland Clinic, Texas Tech University School of Medicine, Cook County Hospital in Chicago and Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital in Capetown, South Africa. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Bourdon Firor. He is survived by daughter Nancy and son-in-law Rick Kibbee of Cincinnati; son Tom (Kaska) Firor of Cincinnati; son Randy (Lynda) Firor of Tucson, Arizona; and six grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 28 at Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens, Ga.
