Obituary

Henry "Hank" Vomacka was born in New York City in 1915. His father was a school teacher who valued an education and managed to have all four of his sons (Ed, Hank, Jack, and Bob) obtain college educations during the peak of the depression. Hank graduated from the University of Alabama and entered medical school graduating from the Long Island College of Medicine in 1940. In 1941, while an intern, he met and married Mary Kratochvil. World War II intervened in Hank's life and in 1941 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was a flight surgeon with B-17 training squadrons stationed in Florida. Hank shipped out overseas and served with the infantry in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return home Hank said that he never wanted to be cold again, so he and his wife settled in Sarasota, Florida. Hank set up his medical practice in Sarasota, eventually specializing in anesthesia. He practiced in Sarasota until his retirement in 1980. Upon retiring Hank posted a notice in the Sarasota Herald Tribune relieving his past patients of any debt that they might still owe. Hank loved sports cars and racing, flying, and he was a voracious reader. It was unusual to see Hank without some reading material in his hand. Hank owned several sports cars and airplanes during his life. He took his sons to the races throughout Florida and flew family and friends all over the country. Hanks real love was singing. Specifically, he loved barbershop singing and was a charter member of the Sarasota chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). Hank sang in quartets and the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys, he attended Harmony College in the summers, and he was a judge. Hank attended SPEBSQSA conventions annually for more than 50 years. In 1983, Hank was elected international President of SPEBSQSA and enjoyed a wonderful tenure putting the cherry on the top of his barbershopping career. In 2005, Hank and his wife sold their house in Sarasota and moved in with their daughter in Cincinnati. Hank was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 73 years. He is survived by sons David (Jan), Bob (Rosemarie), and daughter Martha Lodge (Dick), 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and too many barbershop friends to mention. Hank requested a private service with his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Hospice of Southwest Ohio, 7625 Camargo Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio 45243 or online at www.hswo.org. Funeral Home: Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home & Cremation Center - Loveland 129 Riverside Drive Loveland, OH US 45140
