Obituary

Harold Eugene Hunt, 80, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away on February 5, 2026.

He was the beloved husband of Susan (Cunningham) Hunt; loving father of Henry Jay Hunt; proud grandfather of Stephen Smith, Caleb Smith, and Trenton Smith; dear brother of Karen Sue Hunt-Carlisle and Charles Ray Hunt.

Harold was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Ann Hunt-Smith; parents, Walter Leroy and Lucille Gladys (Cochran) Hunt; brother, Paul Hunt; sisters, Doris Hunt and Martha Hunt-Mowry.

Harold was first a car man! He was a car trader through his high school years. He finally got his hearts delight when he got his Porshe in his later years. I know he had it up to 120MPH when I wasn't around. He had his BMW motorcycle when I first knew him 30 odd years ago. During that time, I met his first wife and son, Henry. We traveled around in our early years on it for fun. Harold introduced me to his dream of being a nudist, so we joined Cedar Trails and maintained a place there and visited several other places in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Florida. When we got married 25 years ago, we came to the place we have now. He too raised blackberries and started a you-pick, which he greatly enjoyed! He also became enthused with purple martins and eventually had three towers totaling 36 gourd homes. I got to wash them out over the winter.

Before we married Harold was a social worker in Lebanon, Ohio-case manager. When he retired, he was called a "Dinosaur". He would have nightmares concerning some of the extra help he gave some of his clients because he had done a little extra that was beyond what was allowed. Waiting for the government to come and get him. He told me about the two cat ladies and having to catch and cage those mange cats that jumped and ran all over the house.

Harold was in FFA in high school in Westboro, then in Blanchester when the schools consolidated.

He told me of the boar hog on which he'd gotten first prize and planned to take to the Ohio State Fair. His father had hoped to improve his "herd" with it but if got sick and died. Another time he had a chicken at the county fair. Harold got a prize because the judge thought had had trained the chicken to hang upside-down on his arm. It really was just a sick bird.

Harold was in the National Guard (best he could do as a quaker). During his training his group was sent to the winter woods in Michigan. He got lost and spent the night out there. Harold had to wear a tag, peel potatoes and drive a truck.

Harold was an avid euchre player in several places, including the Blanchester Senior Center. He was always there to help in the early days of the Garden Club plant sale, making signs to advertise, giving directions, and anything else that was needed. Harold was such a wonderful, onery man.

A graveside service will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Westboro Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
