Tribute to Greg’s Life

Greg’s faith was his compass, guiding him with grace, strength and purpose. It shaped the way he cared for others and faced life’s challenges. He fully trusted God and the plan for his life. Although he had always believed, Greg’s relationship with Jesus was transformed and strengthened when he got baptized in October of 2022. His journey continued with couple’s groups with Monica and multiple men’s groups and bible studies, where he formed deep and lasting relationships.

Greg was born in east Cleveland, Ohio, in November 1961. Much of his youth was spent moving as the family followed his father’s quest for education and more challenging work. The family traveled from Idaho Falls to Madison, WI, St. Joseph, MI, to Naperville, IL where he graduated from high school in 1979. Following high school, he pursued his Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Texas – Austin in 1983. His educational journey concluded with obtaining his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1987. Greg discovered his love for science, sports, and camping as a child.

As a passionate Intellectual Property Attorney, Greg had a successful 39+ year career with Wood, Herron & Evans, protecting novel ideas and the people who created them. He cared deeply for his clients and loved what he did, diligently working on cases until the very end.

Greg was an avid rugby player for 25+ years and leaves behind a great legacy with the Cincinnati Wolfhounds. Greg was inducted into the Wolfhounds Hall of Fame in 2010.

Greg’s family was his team. He created countless memories with Monica and their children, going to work out classes, running races, adventuring outdoors, watching college football games, golfing, skiing, off-roading, and so much more. His steady nature and quiet wisdom were an anchor to his family, and they will continue to hear his voice in their minds and hearts, cheering them on at every life achievement and offering guidance in challenging times. He loved to tell cheesy “dad jokes” and his family loved to laugh at them even more! In his final days, the recurring theme that emerged was the impact he had on others. What an amazing legacy to leave and an inspiration to us all.

Greg and Monica’s love story began on a blind date in 2002. The bond they shared is an inspiration to their children as they have navigated life’s obstacles in a true partnership.

Greg was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018. Even though he endured too many days filled with pain and fought many unseen battles, he faced each day with remarkable strength, courage, determination, and unrelenting positivity. He had a warrior ‘s attitude throughout countless treatments and their side effects. Greg was not defined by his diagnosis. He defied it heroically.

His life was guided by generosity – whether that meant delivering gifts to the elderly, going on mission trips, supporting church groups, or the daily encouragement he gave to his children – many have been a recipient of his generous nature. Greg was a board member at nonprofits such as the Eve Center and Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly. He dedicated many hours to the Volunteer Lawyers Project, which enabled him to donate his legal expertise to those in need. All of this showcases his dedication to making a difference within his community.

Greg unequivocally demonstrated self-sacrificial character throughout his life and now beyond. Even after his passing, as an organ donor, Greg gave sight to two people. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him, but their lives are better for having known him.
