Geneva grew up on the family farm in Jefferson Township, the daughter of Elmer and Elizabeth (nee Comer) Brandenburg. She and her sisters, Virginia, Mary Lucille and Frances graduated from Jefferson High School. She married Robert Eugene Winkle in May 1947, after the two met on a blind date. The two were both employed by Wright Patterson Air Force Base, but moved to New Jersey where Robert had accepted employment at the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center, known as NAFEC. Geneva worked for the Northfield School System as a secretary for several years. She attended Northfield Methodist Church, meeting many new friends there. She was a Cub Scout Leader at one point, and a member of the Coast Guard Auxilliary.
After retirement, the Winkles moved back to Ohio to be near family. Geneva enjoyed simple pleasures-gardening, flowers, reading, coloring and her family. She had a special love of animals and had several dogs and cats throughout her life. Geneva and Robert had 2 children, Alice Winkle of Blanchester and Marc Winkle of Park City, Utah and North Shore, Oahu. There are 3 grandchildren, Justine Winkle of Hawaii, Tyler Winkle and Corey Winkle, both of California, 2 nieces Karla Cottom of California and Rebecca Westra of Florida. She had several grand nieces and nephews. The last four years of her life were spent at Cape May Retirement Village in Wilmington, where she made many special friendships. She is deceased by her husband, parents, sisters and a nephew, Jon Shupert.
