General Smith of Middletown, OH, went home to be with Our Lord and Savior on March 12, 2026, at the age of 79. General was born on May 22, 1946, to James and Lulu Smith. 

General was the beloved husband of Phyllis (nee Veith) Smith and the late Florencie (nee Collett) Smith, loving father of Karen (Gene) Cain, Carol (Roy) Smith and the late Kimberly Francis, caring stepfather of Justin Gee and Jonathan (Deborah) Gee, devoted grandfather of Harold (Crystal) Vaughn, Toni (Ethan) Wolfe, Justin Francis, Dylan Francis, Jonathan Gee, Ezekiel Gee, Elijah Gee, Stella Gee and the late Joshua Vaughn and Michael Salyers, proud great-grandfather of Will Wolfe, Jazzy Wolfe, Dallas Pierce, Wesley Vaughn, Cade Francis, Kimberlee Francis, Aubree Francis, Lucas Francis, and the late Cheyenne Vaughn, dear brother of the late Ramon Smith, Lewis Smith and Nora Rogers, cherished son of the late James and Lulu Smith. 

General was a devoted outdoorsman who found his greatest joy in the quiet peace of a fishing line on the water and the thrill of a good hunt. He had a deep appreciation for gospel bluegrass music, which filled his days with comfort and joy. He loved traveling to various churches with his family, cherishing the fellowship, the worship, and the time spent together on the road. Above all, his faith and his family were at the heart of everything he did. 

Friends will be received from 10 AM to 12 Noon on Tuesday, March 17, at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 1668 St. Rt. 28, Goshen, where services will begin on Tuesday at 12 Noon. Rev. Brian Smith and Rev. Dakota Smith officiating. 

The interment will take place at Morrow Cemetery, Morrow, OH.
