Obituary

Gary Allan Morem passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the age of 88. Gary was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather "Bapa" , and friend. He never knew a stranger and welcomed everyone into his life.

Born on July 26, 1936, in Harmony, Minnesota, to Oren and Gilma Morem. Gary's family moved to Austin, Minnesota. After graduating from Austin High School in 1954, Gary enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. He served "3 years and 9 days" and loved every minute. Gary was appointed to the U.S.S. Northampton, with his duties being on the No. 1 Throttle in the Engine Room. Gary was very proud of the time he served in the Navy and that he represented his country and ship playing for the ship's basketball team all over the world.

After serving in the Navy, he returned to Austin and attended the Austin Junior College and the Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1959, Gary married Doris Dunn, and they moved to Bettendorf, Iowa, to start their life and family. Gary was employed by Rock Island Furnace, Rock Island, Illinois. While in Bettendorf, they started their family of two daughters, Deborah and Sheryl. Gary lost his wonderful wife, Doris, in 2001.

In 1960, the family moved to Forest Park, Ohio, for a new employment opportunity with Dunham Bush. He also was employed by Corporate Equipment and eventually started his own company, Systecon, Inc., which still operates today in West Chester, Ohio. Gary was a natural salesman and led his company to great success. He was proud that he had excellent, committed, and loyal employees. Systecon had representatives all over the United States, many of whom became good friends. In 2008, Gary sold Systecon to a group of his employees and retired at the age of 72.

Gary was an avid golfer and "King of the Press". He was a member of Pleasant Run Country Club (Fairfield,Ohio), Beckett Ridge Country Club (W. Chester, Ohio), Firestone Country Club (Akron, Ohio), TPC River's Bend (Maineville, Ohio), and Forest Creek Country Club (Southern Pines, North Carolina). Gary loved Firestone and entertained many customers, reps, family, and friends there. All you had to do was say, " I would love to play Firestone," and Gary would take you there.

Although Gary was lucky to play many wonderful and top-rated golf courses, including Shinnecock Hills, Oakmont, and Pebble Beach, he was most proud of the opportunity to play Augusta National for 3 days.

In September 2001, Gary met Renetta Ruoff at Beckett Ridge Country Club. They quickly became a couple enjoying golf, people, and just being together. Gary and Renetta were married on May 18, 2002, in W. Chester, Ohio and were married for 23 years. In 2004, they built a home and moved to TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio. They spent many winters in Phoenix, Arizona, where they were blessed to have family and good friends join them for golf and time together. Gary was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for 21 years.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Robert (Phyllis) (Scottsdale, Arizona), Roderick "Biddy" (Dolores), and Charles (Beverly) Morem (Austin, Minnesota), and his wife, Doris Morem (West Chester, Ohio). Gary leaves his wife, Renetta; daughters: Debbie (Pat) Byrnes (Alpharetta, Georgia), and Sherri Bergman (Greenwood, Indiana); grandchildren of whom he was so proud: Jay (Bree) Byrnes (Liberty Township, Ohio), Libby Byrnes (Nashville, Tennessee), Anna (Jonathan) Oshinski (Dawsonville, Georgia), John Byrnes (Tucson, Arizona), Sara (David) Hodson (Trafalgar, Indiana), and Ryan (Kai) Smith (Greenwood, Indiana); great-grandchildren: Emmalee Hodson, Oren Byrnes, Nathan Oshinski, Colton Smith, Lexi Byrnes, and Anthony Oshinski. Gary leaves so many loving family and friends, all of whom knew he loved them. He will be missed tremendously and never forgotten.
