IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Florence
Oatts-Lucas
May 5, 1930 – June 11, 2024
Florence Oatts-Lucas passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the age of 94 following an accident and a short time at Hospice of Cincinnati.
Florence was born the oldest of three children to William and Louise Flanagan in Summerville, Georgia in 1930. She met the love of her life, Jay Oatts, at Centre College. They married in 1950. Jay died as the result of an accident in 1979 at the age of 51. She later married Anthony J. Lucas who she lost to cancer in 1987.
Known for the southern accent that she refused to surrender, as well as her independent spirit and "tell it like it is" personality, she will be long remembered as a force to be reckoned with.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Allison Oatts Highland (late Henry "Butch") Highland. Allison and her mother shared a passion for gardening, family history and Sunday dinners.
She is also survived by her son, Thomas Jay Oatts, Jr. (Kari S. Oatts) and their children, Ashleigh Oatts and Jay Oatts.
Florence was the much-loved grandmother to Thomas Henry "Trey" Highland and Elizabeth Wesley Highland. She was confidante, teacher, best friend and favorite sleepover organizer. She attended all of their events, large and small, and was so proud of anything they did.
Although her sister, Mary Louise Tallent still lives in Summerville, Georgia, they enjoyed trips to spend time together and of late, several phone calls a day. They were fiercely protective of each other.
Florence was predeceased by her brother, William Flanagan.
Florence lived in her house in Loveland for fifty-five years and her neighbors became her family by heart. She will be remembered and missed by the amazing friends and neighbors on Nimrod Blvd.
Donations in Florence's memory may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati , P.O. Box 633597, Cincinnati, OH. 45263.
A memorial service is planned for a later date to be announced.
