Elva J. Capozio of Loveland. Beloved wife of the late Sandui "Sandy" Capozio. Loving mother of Sandra (the late Larry) Hoppe. Proud grandmother of Jeff Hoppe. Dear sister of the late Noble Conley, Clinton Conley, Bob Conley, Ken Conley, Esta Apke, Freda Johnson, Ora Lanham, and Vada Harper. Passed away August 16, 2018 at the age of 95.
Elva grew up on a farm in Clermont County, near Milford. She had four brothers and four sisters. One of her brothers had a little country band, so her house was often filled with music and friends. When she was five years old her Dad bought a used player piano, and she fill in love with the ragtime music. This was during the depression, and her parents couldn't afford piano lessons, so Elva decided to teach herself by listening to the music of the piano rolls. Besides her family, her greatest love was the piano. She was proud of her self-taught musical talents as she played for many people in the nursing homes, church, and at senior gatherings.
Elva didn't play in front of anyone until she become a senior citizen at which time she realized her music made people happy. She said many times that when she first started playing at this late time in her life, she was amazed that anyone wanted to listen to her. She enjoyed playing alongside her daughter, Sandy Hoppe, who has played the organ from an early age. The mother/daughter team has played at church and family gatherings and their musical combination has brought enjoyment to all.
Elva worked for Indian Hill High School as a secretary for the Principal. She was an avid volunteer in Senior Services for 15 years in Clermont County and 20 years in Warren County.
