Elizabeth Gatts Allen Caplinger was born April 26, 1921 to John Quincy Gatts and Ruth (nee Robinson) Gatts at Gatts Homestead Farm on Bethel-New Hope Rd., Bethel, OH and died April 1, 2017 at the Island Lake Nursing Home, Longwood, FL after a brief illness at the age of 95.
She attended and graduated from Hamersville School, Hamersville, OH and also attended and graduated from the Miller School of Business, Cincinnati, OH. She was a secretary at the following: Collections Division of Union Central Life Insurance Co., Cinti.; for the Deputy Commissioner District of Columbia Workmen's Comp., Washington, DC.; for the Training Film Production Lab at Wright Field, Dayton, Oh; for the Safety Engineer and Workmen's Comp Clerk at the Naval Supply Center, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; for the Loan Guaranty Reviewer of the Veterans Administration, Cinti, OH; she was medical secretary for the Associate Professors of Internal Medicine at the Univ. of Cincinnati Medical College; secretary to the Director, Portsmouth General Hospital, Portsmouth, OH; she was the clerk and treasurer of the Village of Midland, Oh. 1955-1964; Secretary and treasurer of First Baptist Church, Blanchester, OH from 1965-70; and clerk at the US Post Office, Blanchester, OH 1974 until her retirement in 1986.
Some of her hobbies were crocheting, reading, sewing for her family and friends, and many other hand crafts. She was an excellent cook and could often re-create recipes after tasting a dish.
She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Blanchester, OH. She belonged to the Homemakers group of the Clinton Co. Extension office. She resided in Blanchester for 40 years before selling her home and dividing her time between her daughters in Connecticut and Florida.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Lynn Allen (Rick) McKinniss, Sharon Ann Allen (Dennis) Kurir and Douglas Paul Allen; grandchildren, Mark (Vanessa) McKinniss, Michael (Kate) McKinniss, R. Samuel McKinniss, Katherine McKinniss, Mary Beth Kurir, Adam Kurir, Nicholas Kurir, Brendan Allen, Paul Allen, Jaqueleen Allen, Sean Allen and Mary Allen; great grandchildren, Elijah, Hannah, Ezra and Jonah McKinniss; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel Allen with whom she was married for nearly 42 years; her second husband, Russell Caplinger whom she married in 2000 and took care of ;until the last week of his life in 2011; her son Marion Ray Allen; sisters, Mary Gatts (Robert) Fischer and Norma Jean Gatts (Earl) Bishop; daughter-in-law, Peggy Kelly Allen.
Friends will be received from 10-12 noon on Thursday April 6, 2017 at the Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home, 120 W. Main St. Blanchester, OH 45107, where services will follow at 12 noon with Rick McKinniss officiating.
