Elizabeth "Liz" Ann (nee La Spina)Bucalo, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2014 at the age of 58. Born in Chicago, she grew up in Buffalo Grove, IL, attending Wheeling HS. In 1999 she married Joe Bucalo, whom she met up with at their 25 year reunion and moved to Loveland, Ohio. During her lifetime, she displayed incredible strength and determination in managing major obstacles. Living with MS for over 20 years, Liz was also an 18 year breast cancer survivor. She successfully managed her MS and was a major influence in the establishment of the "Meet and Eat for MS" support group. She also worked with area school teaching the children about what it is like to live with a disability. Liz was a giving spirit full of limitless kindness and compassion. She raised 7 children, 3 of which are developmentally handicapped. She loved her sister and brothers dearly and was deeply devoted to her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her beloved husband Joseph E. Bucalo. Cherished daughter of Jack and Catherine La Spina. Loving mother of Ron (Melody) Modesto, Bill (Erin) Modesto, Barbara Carlson, and Kristen Carlson. Dear step-mother of Scott, Matthew, and Nicole Bucalo. Proud grandmother of Ron, Brandon, Lilly, Xavier, Anthony, Gavin, and Rowen. Devoted sister of Steve (Eileen) La Spina, Judy (Tim) Allen, and Tony La Spina. Family and friends will be received from 5-8 PM on Thursday, January 9 at Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home, 129 N Riverside Ave, Loveland, OH 45140. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 10 at St. Susanna Catholic Church, 616 Reading Road, Mason, OH 45040. She will always be in our hearts! Interment Rose Hill Cemetery, Mason. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National MS Society or the American Cancer Society in memory of Liz.
