Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and comforting sorrow that we announce the passings of Ed and Mary Grainger of Batavia on May 27, 2026 and May 25, 2026.

Ed was born on September 22, 1933 in Bellevue, Kentucky, the youngest of six sons to George and Thelma Grainger. On his 18th birthday, Ed enlisted into the United States Navy for independence and to see the world. Up until his death, he was still sharing his Navy days. Traveling continued to be one of his passions, always planning the next road trip. His other passions were golf, playing card games, and tending to his manicured yard. He dedicated 42 years in various management positions with Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1994.

Mary was born March 25, 1936, the fourth child of ten to Sylvester and Mary Wisenhahn in Cincinnati, Ohio. She just celebrated her 90th birthday. Mary dedicated her entire life to her husband, children, family, and later her grandchildren in their formative years. Her greatest joy came from fostering a loving environment and a warm nurturing home. Her cooking skills were legendary and creative. Her surviving siblings are Gale Wiesenhahn and Jane Kemper.

Together, Ed and Mary were true to their devotion and marriage vows yet denied “death do us part.” They were inseparable for 70 years and passed within two days of one another. An incredible love story.

They are the loving parents of Kathy (Dan) Brady, Steve (Pam) Grainger, Carolyn (Steve) Cooley, Tony (Teri) Grainger, and the late Jean Richardson. Proud grandparents of numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Proud aunt and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 10-11 AM on Wednesday, June 3 at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N Riverside Ave, Loveland, OH 45140, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edward & Mary may be directed to Queen City Hospice or Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand, Indiana.
