Edward "Ed" Joseph Basta, 44, of Maineville, Ohio, and formerly Chardon, died peacefully the afternoon of February 20, 2022, surrounded by family at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland on July 3, 1977, to Edward D. and Joyce E. Basta, Ed graduated from West Geauga High School in 1995 and Cleveland State University in 2000 and 2003, earning his BBA in Finance and MA in Economics, respectively. Ed worked in various risk management roles with increasing responsibility at Progressive Insurance, American Modern Insurance Group, Munich Re and EyeMed Vision Care throughout his career.
Ed is survived by his parents, Edward and Joyce Basta of Aurora; four children, Nicholas Phillips of Hyde Park, and Madelyn, Gabriel and Lucas Basta of Maineville; grandmother, Ann Marie Basta of Aurora; brothers, Paul (Tara) Basta of Bolton, MA, and Andrew (Kim) Basta of Erie, CO; girlfriend, Pandora Homer of Cincinnati; former wife, Krista Basta of Maineville; and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.
Throughout his life, Ed devoted much of his time to the people and activities that brought him joy: his family, especially his children whom he loved so much, his volunteer work, his love of Cleveland sports and his culinary explorations in the kitchen. Always generous with his time, Ed served the Boy Scouts of America locally as Order of the Arrow chapter advisor and St. Margaret of York Units' committee chair. He also ushered at St. Margaret of York Church, coached youth baseball, and volunteered internationally with OneSight. When Ed wasn't volunteering, he could be found in the audience for Little Miami High School's theatre and musical performances, hunting in southern Ohio or giving his take on the latest Browns game to anyone who'd listen.
He was our beloved son, father, grandson, brother, friend and colleague, and there are no words to express how much we will miss Ed's steady, generous and kind heart. Using Ed's example, we are inspired to honor his life by continuing to make a small difference in the world, every day.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to OneSight, www.onesight.org/, or the local Boys Scouts chapter, http://danbeard.org/giving/.
