Obituary

Edward "Ed" Francis Spinner of Batavia, OH passed on December 4, 2025, at the age of 63. Born February 26, 1962, in Cincinnati, Ed was the son of the late Walter and Ethel (Allen) Spinner.

Ed left school at an early age so he could find work and help his family out of a difficult situation and bring all his siblings back together. Those early years shaped who he was for the rest of his life: a helper, a fixer, and a protector.

At 23 Ed married the love of his life, Denise Michelle (Ferguson) Spinner, and together they built a good life and happy home. They celebrated 40 years of marriage this November. He was a devoted father to Brittany Spinner and Sarah (Brian) Miller, he was also a proud and playful "Pappaw" to his five grandchildren. He was a brother, uncle, cousin, and loyal friend to many.

He was a hard worker, but he never missed the moments that mattered. He delighted in being the assistant coach on his daughters' softball and basketball teams, and later he loved babysitting his grandchildren. He was the kind of man whose energy drew every kid to him and lit up the day. Coaching, playing, and supporting were where he was happiest; being with his family was his greatest joy.

Ed also loved banjos, good music, good stories, nature, history, and craftsmanship. He was deeply interested in how things worked and the way things were made. He spent his career as a tile setter and construction worker, and he always had projects and plans he was working on. His hands shaped countless homes. He was a faithful believer and followed the example of his Lord by always being willing to give and sacrifice for others. He was the first phone call for anyone who wanted advice, a tool, an opinion, or a hand. He always showed up, ready to do whatever had to get done, whether you asked him to or not. He did the things he knew you needed, often before you did, and he was nearly always right.

Just the other day, Ed reflected on the meaningful moments in life as flower seeds: beautiful things that are scattered in the wind but that we may never see bloom. We hope that he's able to see the fields of blooms his life has certainly planted.

In addition to his parents, Ed is preceded in death by his brothers Chuck Spinner and Rik Jennings. He is survived by his devoted wife, Denise; daughters Brittany and Sarah (Brian); his cherished grandchildren Mackenzie Reynolds, Eruhin Midence, Eliot Miller, Maddie May Miller, and Vivienne Miller; his siblings Clara Dean Hasting, Debbie Smithers, John (Barb) Spinner, Kathi (Dean) Blazek, Ruth Roehm, Jim (Debbie) Klaty, Joan Jacobs, Sandy (Donnie) Wisby, Ralph Jennings, Rob Klaty, Louise (Jim) Ammon; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

We all will miss him profoundly here, even as we rejoice that he is home with his savior.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 9, from 5–7 p.m. at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 1668 St. Rt. 28, Goshen. A service will begin at 7 p.m.
