Dr. Stephen John Clarson of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on April 19, 2022, at the age of 62, at North
Bethesda Hospital. Born on April 20, 1959, in Rawmarsh, South Yorkshire, England.
Steve obtained his D.Phil. in Chemistry from the University of York in 1985. He moved to Cincinnati and
worked at the University of Cincinnati as a Professor in the College of Engineering for 27 years. He was a
Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a chartered Chemist and a world-renowned expert in polymers
and silicones. He served as Director of the Polymer Research Center and Director of the University of
Cincinnati Membrane Center. He was the editor-in-chief of the journal Silicon.
Friendly and outgoing, he was an intellectual who loved books, science, history, music, art, soccer
(football), and trains. He enjoyed being the soccer coach for over 10 years for his children's soccer
teams. Later he spent much of his free time volunteering at church and building homes for Habitat of
Humanity.
Steve is survived by his former wife, Marie, his children, Julia, Heather, and Sam, his granddaughter,
Charlee Marie, and his sister, Sandra. He is loved by all his family, near and far, and respected and
admired by his colleagues, students and friends.
Family and friends will be received Friday, April 29 from 10-11 AM in the Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Ave., Loveland, OH 45140, where funeral services will follow at 11 AM. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
