IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothee Gisele
Elowe
May 3, 1930 – October 21, 2023
Dorothee Gisele (Garneau) Elowe passed quietly in her sleep on October 21, 2023, at the age of 93. Dorothee was born and raised in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, where she loved to ski and skate and was even a hockey goalie on a boys' team. She completed her undergraduate pharmacy degree in Quebec before becoming the only woman in her class while working on her master's degree in pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin.
Dorothee was a fun loving, hardworking, amazing mother, grandmother (GMA), and great grandmother (GiGi). She loved to sew, bake and garden and was an excellent bridge player. After the passing of her husband Louis Nasir Elowe in 1986, she began travelling the world with her sister Andree. She would also tent camp for 6 weeks at a time with her daughter-in-law and granddaughters throughout the US and Canada. She travelled to several countries in the world and hosted many guests from around the world as a member of Friendship Force while living in Memphis, TN and St Louis, MO. She even travelled with
her sister-in-law Carol to Spain to study Spanish at the age of 87. She always had a kind word for everyone and a positive attitude. When things weren't going quite right, she would respond with her classic line "one day at a time". She will always be loved and never forgotten by her loving family and her many friends.
Dorothee was preceded in death by her husband Louis Nasir Elowe, her parents Orens Henri Garneau and Alice Marie (Gendron) Garneau, her siblings Andree (Garneau) Dorion, Charles Garneau, and Renee (Garneau) La Haye.
She is survived by her three children Claude Louis Elowe, Suzanne Louise (Elowe) Peterson, and Lorraine Louise Elowe; her six grandchildren, Alicia Elowe, Cassie Elowe, Lauren (Peterson) Fitzgerrel, Steven Peterson, Michael Escue and Claudia Escue; her six great grandchildren, Zoey, Marzie, and Zed Elowe, Hazel Elowe McNabb, Elias Escue, and Audrey Fitzgerrel.
A private service will be held in Memphis, TN at a future date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinsons Foundation.
