How can a grateful son and daughter value their godly mother? By agreeing with the writer of proverbs 31 who writes so eloquently about the priceless worth of a virtuous woman:
Born September 14, 1925 to Irma and Leslie Diercks in Moline, IL, Doris Hodgson was the lovely and beloved wife of Robert George Hodgson, who predeceased her in 2000. She is the sister of Harold Diercks of Birmingham, AL, and mother of Sondra Copanas of Loveland, OH and Craig Hodgson of Des Moines, IA. Doris is grandmother of six, Tanya Copanas, Tamra Ahlert, Tara Cognetti, Christopher Hodgson, Jonathan Hodgson and Kelly Gingrich. Doris is also great-grandmother of Haley Hodgson, Jet Hodgson, Warren Gingrich, Lilly Ahlert, Elliott Ahlert, and Quinn Ahlert.
All her life, Doris, a Christian woman of prayer, was a dedicated and talented homemaker with a beautiful touch who devoted herself to building family, home and hearts. Doris made a lifetime of caring lovingly for the needs of others. She was a generous gift giver and was a gracious welcoming hostess to her extended family through the years. Every guest felt pampered in her well-ordered home. She surely had the Christian gifts of giving and hospitality. She was a wonderful cook and ministered to friend's needs with her cooking. In fact, she had many friends hooked on her sumptuous melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookies. She certainly was a living example of the motto "Good Cooks Never Lack Friends."
Doris was a couture quality seamstress having taken sewing lessons. She created the beautiful formal gowns that Sondra wore to her high school dances and that she took on to college. Later, she designed and created her own Mother-of-the-Bride ensemble and the bride's mantilla veil. Doris also enjoyed other needle crafts such as knitting and cross stitch. From an early age, Doris was an avid reader. She read straight through books not caring to be interrupted.
Doris met the 55 year love of her life, Bob, at church in Moline, IL where she played the saxophone in the church orchestra. She was an excellent high school student heading to nurses training in Chicago when Bob, who was four years older, swept Doris Jean (Dij) off her feet and robbed the cradle. She married him on June 25th 1943 at the age of 18, after he became a 1st Lieutenant in the army during World War II. They were stationed in Corvallis, Oregon where Sondra was born December 3, 1945 on her father's birthday. After the war they settled in Indianapolis, where they were a tight couple as they worked in the building business and bore Craig in 1950. Doris enhanced Bob's accomplishments in building many beautiful well-crafted homes and apartment complexes with her excellent taste, ability to coordinate interiors and business matters. Together, they left a Godly legacy of fairness, and fine craftsmanship in their building career when they retired. Doris was a good and gentle person of integrity who fleshed out the fruits of the Holy Spirit in her unwavering faith in God during her earthly journey. She is reunited with Bob, the only love of her life, in the eternal presence of God. We miss them both.
Doris passed away December 25, 2014 at the age of 89.
