Obituary

Donald D. Goodwin, 93, formerly of Blanchester, OH Tavares, FL, and Wilmington, OH died March 20, 2013 at the Brethren Retirement Community Nursing Home, Greenville, OH. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Alice Goodwin. They were married November 6, 1947 in Wilmington, OH. Mr. Goodwin was born June 12, 1919 in Clermont Co., OH, the youngest of ten children of the late William S. Goodwin and Bessie Conner Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin graduated from Blanchester High School in 1937 and farmed with his father and brother until 1939 when the three of them purchased the International Harvester dealership in Blanchester. Mr. Goodwin enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served with the 41st Division in the Pacific, returning home in 1945. He rejoined his father and brother Leo at W.S. Goodwin and Sons, where he worked until the elder Mr. Goodwin's retirement in 1957. Mr. Goodwin worked two years with Knapp Sales and Service in Blanchester and then joined The First National Bank in Blanchester, retiring in 1982 as Vice President and Assistant Cashier. Mr. Goodwin was a member of Second Creek United Methodist Church, Blanchester Rotary Club, American Legion Post 179, VFW Post 6710, Jr. Order of United American Mechanics Council 134, Clinton Co. Implement Dealers Association, Clinton Co. Bankers Association, and served from 1963 to 1985 on the Clinton County Soldiers Relief Commission. In addition to his wife, Mr. Goodwin is survived by two sons, David (Sandi) Goodwin, of Wilmington, OH, and Daryl (Carol Lee) Goodwin of Ansonia, OH; six grandchildren, Jeff (Becky) Goodwin of Williamsburg, MI, Craig (Roni) Goodwin of Winter Haven, FL, Brad (Erika) Goodwin of Wilmington, OH, Gregory Goodwin of Versailles, OH, Sarah Goodwin of Wilmington, OH and Krista (Andrew) Waymire of Ansonia, OH; and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goodwin was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, Lucy Bryan, Irene Hugh, Alice Hough, Ethel Reeder, Robert Goodwin, Ralph Goodwin, Leo Goodwin, Ruth Weller, and Minnie Campbell; and two great grandson, Corin Goodwin and Zeke Goodwin. Friends will be received from 6-8 PM on Monday March 25, 2013 at the Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home, 120 W. Main St. Blanchester, OH 45107, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM with Rev. Bill Edwards officiating. Interment Blanchester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Blanchester, OH.
