Obituary

DANIEL Donald Garry of Milford, OH. Garry was born on February 2, 1927 in Newtown, Ohio to Mildred (nee Caplinger) and Lawrence Daniel. Garry was raised in Newtown, Ohio and lived in many other places due to his father's career Army position. Garry is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty Jane (nee Baker) Daniel. Garry and Betty married in December of 1946, where they lived in Newtown and then moved to Milford where they lived in the same house for 53 years. He is the loving father of Terry (Teresa) Daniel, Debbie (Virgil) Kranz and Susan (Leslie) Pilot. Caring grandfather of Marsha Blair, Emily Daniel, Kevin Daniel, Bethany Harding, Ryan Harding, Joseph Pilot and Adam Pilot and great-grandfather of Caleb Blair, Noah Blair and Natan Blair. Foster parent of Kathy Tarter and Karen Johnson. Gary served our country in the United States Navy from February 25, 1944 to December 17, 1947. Garry was a deep sea diver with the Navy. During his time in the Navy, Garry earned five medals; World War II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation and Good Conduct Medal. He served on the USS Paducah PG18, ATB, Ft. Pierce, Florida and the USS Tyrrell AKA 80 and the USS Vulcan AR5. Garry's service to our country started when he and a friend were on their way to school one day, they hid their books behind a tree, walked over to a tug boat operator at Captain Hann Tug Company in New York, New York, and the tug boat operator asked them if they wanted a job. They jumped on board and left and called their mom's later and never looked back. Garry was around 15, then joined the Navy at 17. After the Navy, Garry was a house painter and Wallpaper hanger for over 50 years. There was never a man more loved on this earth by his family. He was the happiest when we were all together for celebrations. His love and giving had no limits. Garry was a very hard worker. In the last years of Garry's alzheimer's he spent much of his time looking for his mother. Garry died on the same date that his mother died, 24 years before him.
