Dona G. Bloch, 88, a life-long resident of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014, at Meadowbrook Care Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dona was born on October 20, 1926, in Eau Claire, the daughter of Coral (Woodford) and Adolph Gerth. Dona graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1944 and married Harvey R. Bloch in 1951. She was employed at the Eau Claire Uniroyal plant for many years until its closing, at which time she worked in the employee benefits/insurance office. After retiring from Uniroyal, she worked part-time at Eagles Printing in Eau Claire. Dona was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She served as its custodian for several years, participated on money-counting teams, and was very active in the quilting group. She was an exceptionally talented seamstress and made numerous elaborate handmade quilts, afghans, clothes, and toys. She excelled in any craft she tried, including quilting, sewing, embroidery, crocheting, re-upholstery, and even cake decorating. While in her 70s, Dona was a volunteer for Leader Dogs for the Blind, raising 5 puppies: Clare, Kline, Clea, Clovis, and Cluney.
Dona is survived by her daughters, Tamara, of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Janel, of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters Cloris Seng of Eau Claire and Shirley Thompson of Altoona; and sisters-in-law Bernadine Boernke of Eau Claire and Phyllis Strauch of Fall Creek.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999, her parents, and her two brothers, Ernest Gerth and LaVerne ("Dud") Gerth.
Special thanks to everyone who helped Dona during her long battle with Alzheimer's disease, especially Garnett and JoAnn Boernke of Eau Claire and the wonderful caregivers at Arden Courts of Kenwood in Cincinnati, particularly Valerie, Cleo, Janice, and Tyree.
Interment will be at Rest Haven Gardens, Eau Claire.
