Obituary

Domenico Germano, 73, passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2021 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Domenico was born in Duronia, Italy, in the Province of Campobasso, on October 21st, 1948. He immigrated to the United States in 1963, along with his parents and brothers. He is survived by his beloved wife Angiolina, sons David (Sarah) and Marc (Nicole), and brother Pasquale (Regina). He was a devoted grandfather to Sophia, Grace, Massimiliano, Luciano, Camilla and Catherine. He is predeceased by mother Addolorata, father Nicola and brother Franco (Barbara). Domenico was a supremely accomplished chef, an early ambassador of Cincinnati's fine-dining, and a mentor to so many aspiring, culinary professionals. He spent much of his early career as the Executive Chef of the Specialty Division of Frisch's Corporation, overseeing the culinary operations of Dockside IV, Riverview and Prime & Wine Restaurants, across Greater Cincinnati. While with Frisch's Specialty Division, Chef served as an ambassador for Cincinnati Cuisine, sharing his talents in news and trade shows, from Toronto, CA to New Orleans, LA. In 1986, Chef opened Germano's Ristorante, a casual, fine-dining experience offering the finest Italian cuisine that became the ultimate expression of his passion and love for the culinary arts. Germano's Ristorante earned awards and recognition in national publications from Zagat to USA Today and Wine Spectator as one of the finest Italian restaurants in the Midwest. For over 28 years, Chef Germano delighted literally millions of patrons, across Greater Cincinnati and beyond. Domenico is and will always be the epitome of the American dream. He was a tenacious, creative genius with an unwavering commitment to family, and a deep respect for hard working people. Domenico will be cremated and laid to rest at Gate of Heaven in Montgomery. Domenico wished for a private burial service. The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, we have created the Chef Domenico Germano Memorial Fund. Throughout his career, chef always made time to teach, mentor and share his talents with other young professionals. Chef was an influential part of the creation of Cincinnati State's nationally recognized, Midwest Culinary Institute and an inaugural and frequent participant in MCI's One Night, Twelve Chefs events, supporting student scholarships. The Chef Domenico Germano Memorial Fund was created to celebrate the achievements of a creative, industrious and proud Italian immigrant who achieved his ultimate goal of owning his own culinary experience. But more importantly, this memorial fund was created to pay his passion forward to other aspiring young culinary professionals, helping them in achieving their own dreams. To make a donation, please visit Cincinnati State's donor page, scroll down and open the list of funds.
