David Michael Bednar, age 78, of Loveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, with his family by his side.
Born on September 11, 1947, in Massillon, OH, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Lou Bednar. David graduated from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio, where he was a member of the football team, including the 1964 Tiger State Champs. He went on to graduate from Ashland University with a degree in Business Administration. David served in the Army before beginning a successful career in business that included retail and then industrial sales.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna (nee Mallue), his daughters Kyle Bednar and Courtney Coffey (Bryan), and his grandchildren Macie and Grayson Coffey, who he cherished very much. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Paul Mallue (Shelley), Mark Mallue (Tammy), nephews and niece and their spouses.
David was a faithful, long-time public servant, serving the City of Loveland as a member of city council and vice mayor. He served on the Board of the Loveland Symmes Fire Department. He was a 25-year member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
For years, David was an avid boater on both Lake Cumberland, KY, and the Ohio River, making memories with his family and always enjoying the opportunity to meet new friends among the boating community. More recently, he enjoyed spending his winters with Donna in North Fort Myers, FL. David could often be found in his workshop where he repaired items, refinished furniture, and created beautiful live-edge tables. His grilling skills were always a source of pride and he was known to make a mean batch of chili.
Friends and family will be received from 10:00am - 10:45am on Saturday, April 11 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 101 South Lebanon Road, Loveland, OH 45140, with a memorial service to celebrate David’s life at 11:00am. A light luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Melanoma Research Alliance in David’s honor.
