Slocum
February 8, 1942 – December 25, 2023
Daniel Lee Slocum, 81, of Blanchester, Ohio, passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, at home. His wife of 60 years, Jo Anna (nee Florea) Slocum, survives. He was born Feb. 8, 1942, in Blanchester, son of the late Robert E. and Evelyn M. (nee Conover) Slocum. He was a 1960 graduate of Blanchester High School.
Mr. Slocum served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965 during the Vietnam Era.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 179 in Blanchester, where he served on the Honor Guard and as Treasurer. He was a Coach in the Blanchester Community and Blanchester Schools for 42 years, from 1969 to 2011. He was a Deacon and active member of the Blanchester Church of Christ. He was an active member and served as President of the Blanchester Senior Center, where he was instrumental in developing many programs and activities. He also was a member of the Unified Men's Chorus and very much enjoyed singing.
In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by his three sons, Randy (Dee) Slocum of Jacksonville, Florida, Doug (Margie) Slocum of Wilmington, Ohio, and Kirby (Lauren) Slocum of Traverse City, Michigan. Grandchildren Kyle (Cassidy) Slocum, Andrea (Kyle) Campbell, Dean Slocum, Ethan Slocum, Brady Slocum, Carter Slocum, and his great-grandchildren Parker Slocum, Maddie Slocum, Laney Slocum, and Kinslee Campbell. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law. Daniel leaves behind his couch buddy, Duncan, his loyal and loving dog.
In addition to his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by his two brothers, Rick Slocum and Jerry Slocum.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Blanchester Church of Christ (911 Cherry St., Blanchester, Ohio) at 12 noon on Saturday, January 13, 2024. Friend and family will be received on Saturday from 10am to 12 noon. A private graveside service with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 179 Blanchester will take place at Blanchester IOOF Cemetery on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 9am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Blanchester Church of Christ, or the Blanchester Senior Center.
