IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Christine Flowers
Smith
August 19, 1951 – August 12, 2025
It is with deep love and sadness that we share the passing of Christine Flowers Smith, who left this world peacefully on August 12, 2025. She was 73 years old.
Christine was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and grew up in the close-knit community of Edgerton, Ohio. She attended Bowling Green University, where she graduated with a degree in journalism and met the love of her life, James "Jim" Budd Smith, who was also studying journalism. Their shared love of writing and storytelling brought them together and grew into a lifelong partnership. They were married until his passing in 2000.
Christine and Jim eventually settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, where Jim began a lifelong career at the Cincinnati Enquirer. They fell in love with the city and built a vibrant life rich in community, friendship, and purpose. It was in Cincinnati that they raised their two children and were active members of Kenwood Baptist Church.
Later in life, Christine returned to school to pursue a degree in Occupational Therapy, reflecting her deep passion for caring for others. She worked with residents in nursing homes, focusing on improving quality of care and helping people regain independence. Through her work and everyday life, she was a source of compassion, comfort, and strength.
In retirement, Christine continued to live out her calling to serve. She was active in her local community's women's organization and gave generously of her time through community "give back" programs and neighborhood beautification efforts.
Christine enjoyed gardening and spending time in nature, loved animals, and had a passion for genealogy and mystery novels. She especially cherished time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Claire Rogers (Brian) of Loveland, Ohio; her son, Alex Smith (Kyla) of New Zealand; and her beloved grandchildren, Ava (14) and Levi (12) Rogers. She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Smith, and her parents, Milton and Doris Flowers.
Christine's life was defined by her compassion, service, and the meaningful connections she nurtured. Her faith was the steady foundation of her life, especially through her battle with illness.
A memorial service to honor Christine's life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Northstar Community Church, 11020 S Lebanon Rd, Loveland, OH 45140.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Care Center in Loveland, Ohio.
