Obituary

Christa Anita Brisken (nee Weiterer) passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26. She was 101 years old and lived a fulfilling life, being the beloved wife of R. Walter Brisken and mother to Andela (Joseph) Bischoff, Axel (Margaret and the late Nadya) Brisken, Thomas (Susan) Brisken, and Elizabeth (Garry) Stanis. She is survived by 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, and was preceded in death by her 4 step-brothers and 1 step-sister.

Christa had a long and wonderful life, along with some tough times. Born in the small town of Algermissen, Germany, she attended St. Michael in Ahlen, a girls' boarding school. At age 20, she met her husband-to-be on a train loaded with troops, Walter coming to her rescue! They got married on March 26, 1942, had two children during the war, and were separated for long periods of time, including almost two years when Walter was asked to move to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. She and two children were provided living quarters in Landshut until they were allowed entry to the United States in 1948.

Things became much better when they reunited in Dayton with the tremendous outpouring of Lutheran Germans that provided housing and genuine Christian love and support. Christa had two more children, lived in New Jersey as Walter took a job with General Electric, then to Cincinnati for 20 years as the family flourished. They moved to Amelia Island, Florida, for 30 years enjoying the good life of retirement in a warmer climate, with Christa providing her wonderful hospitality for family visitors. In 2009, they moved back to Cincinnati to have excellent care at Twin Lakes, Montgomery.
