Obituary

Carolyn Mary (nee Horstman) Sroufe. Born October 4, 1948. Passed away April 18, 2022 at the age of 73 at UC West Chester Hospital with her daughters at her side. Loving Mother of Nicole P. Ross (Steve Hagan), Tamara B. Regensburger (Joseph) and Debra L. Benzing (David). Proud Grandmother of Landon Perraut, Tristan Benzing and Oliver Regensburger. Dear Sister of Charles Horstman (Jane) and Harry Horstman (Eileen). Beloved Aunt of Chris Horstman (Nicole), Julie Comella (John), Kati Walls, Tim Horstman and Maggie Short (Greg). Carolyn also leaves behind many cherished cousins, great nieces, great nephews and friends. Preceded in death by her parents Caspar and Olga Horstman. She was very grateful to the compassionate caregivers at Mason Healthcare Center where she lived for the last 6.5 years. Carolyn was a lifelong lover of animals and was born on the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals. This was always special to her as she was very close to her Catholic faith. She was a very proud grandmother and loved sharing stories about her grandchildren. She had a very generous spirit, a colorful sense of humor, an enthusiasm for fun and helping others. Carolyn enjoyed gardening vegetables, making beaded bracelets for loved ones, reading books and articles of the science fiction/paranormal genre, connecting with friends, going to outings with her Boomer Buddies group, attending church dinners and thrift shopping. She had a long career at the US Postal Service, and prior to retirement worked for Anthem and Wellpoint where she made lasting friendships. She was devoted to her daughters and encouraged them in their many pursuits and interests through the years. Family and friends will be received Wednesday, April 27 at St. Columban Catholic Church, 894 Oakland Rd., Loveland, from 9:00 AM until the funeral mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM. Private inurnment Gate of Heaven Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Carolyn's name may be made to Animal Rescue organizations (such as SAAP - Stray Animal Adoption Program) or to the American Heart Association.
