Brian Joseph Waldrop of Loveland, OH, died on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the age of 49 due to familial ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was the beloved husband of Bryan Edward Kotter. Brian married Bryan (his best friend and companion of 20 plus years) on August 6, 2015. He survives.
Brian was born December 9, 1966 in Urbana, IL, the son of Ralph Joseph Waldrop (wife, Fran Waldrop) of Tuscola, IL and the late Judith Lee (Harrell) Waldrop (who also died of ALS). Other survivors include a sister, Lisa Waldrop of Monfort Heights, OH, and in-laws Gerry and Barbara Kotter of Anderson Township, OH, as well as some special aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Brian is a 1985 graduate of Centennial High School, Champaign, IL. He graduated with degrees in Christian ministry and majors in Bible from Cincinnati Christian University: an Associate of Arts in 1989 and a Bachelor of Science in 1991. He held a weekend youth ministry in Kentucky and church ministry internships in Indiana and Kansas. As a freelance/assignment writer, Brian was published over 200 times contributing articles to Christian periodicals and Sunday school curriculum for many different denominations. He is the author of one self-published beach-themed devotional book. He served two stints for Standard Publishing, first as an editor of junior high Sunday school curriculum and later as a copy editor. He also worked in several professional positions assisting developmentally disabled adults.
Brian worked for a number of years in the clinical and scientific laboratory fields. Most recently he was employed as a Research Associate with Vet Path Services, Inc. (VPS). Previously, he worked in the microbiology and cytology labs of Mercy Health, as well as the hematology lab of The Health Alliance.
Brian and Bryan enjoyed many trips together to Florida. When not working, Brian enjoyed researching Florida's history, beaches, wildlife, tourism, or anything related to the Sunshine State. He was always planning their next vacation.
Brian was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Loveland, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, or to Hospice of Cincinnati, or to the Central & Southern Ohio Chapter of the ALS Association.
Family will receive friends on Monday, October 17 from 6-8 PM in the Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Dr., Loveland. Friends will also be received on Tuesday, October 18 from 10-11 AM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 101 S. Lebanon Rd., Loveland, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM. Interment Rest Haven Memorial Park.
