Elizabeth (Betty) Bertke, 85, died October 19, 2010 at John Knox Village, Pompano Beach, Florida. She was born Dec. 7, 1924 in Cincinnati, OH to Joseph and Hulda Schildmeyer. Along with her twin sister, Patty, she was active in fashion modeling and the USO. Betty attended the University of Cincinnati and then married Don Bertke in 1948. In 1966 the family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where Betty lived until recently moving into John Knox Village in Pompano Beach. Don and Betty were founding parishioners of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ft. Lauderdale. Betty was very active in the St. John's Women's Guild and also as a long time member of Coral Ridge Country Club. Well known for her good humor, you always knew when Betty was in the house by her laugh. Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don; her parents; her twin sister Patty Stephenson; and her older brother Dick Schildmeyer. Betty leaves to cherish her memories: three children: Arthur Bertke (Kathie) of Parkland, FL, Joseph Bertke (Nina) of Oakland Park, FL, and Patricia Berk (Michael) of Starkville, MS; seven grandchildren: Erin Tincher (Matthew) of Nashville, TN, Robin Caswell (Derek) of Nashville, TN, Jesse Goldstein (Peter) of Summerfield, FL, Donald Bertke II of Oakland Park, FL, Antonio Bertke of Oakland Park, FL, Jamen Berk of Starkville, MS and Matthew Berk of Starkville, MS; three great-grandsons: Samuel, Benjamin, and Elijah Tincher of Nashville, TN; one brother: Robert Schildmeyer (Marilyn) of Loveland, OH; one sister: Joanne Raga (Joe) of Cincinnati, OH; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
