Obituary

Belle Elizabeth Hiles (nee Leonard), age 86, passed peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, December 23rd, 2017 at Christ Hospital with her three children at her bedside following a short illness. She is survived by her children David (Natalie), Rebecca (John) Costello and Mark (Lisa). The beloved grandmother of Amber (Bob) Wagner, Scott (Rogena), Rachel (Jusiah) Miller and Abigail (David) Cydrus, Belle was also the cherished great-grandmother of Jacob Wagner, Noah and Reagan Miller. She was a step-grandmother to Courtney (Cody) McKay, Mallory (Randy) Chandler, Jeffrey Worley and step-great-grandmother to Lily, Lucy and Jaxson Chandler. Belles half-brother, John Leonard, also survives her. Belle was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, the Rev. Glen Hiles, as well as their son Jeffrey and her sister, Marie. Belle was born near McDermott, OH on January 15th 1931 to Emmert Leonard and Luella (Slye) Leonard Pasquinelli. She was raised by her grandparents, John and Belle Leonard, on their family farm where she developed a strong work ethic as she tended daily to the livestock. She graduated as Salutatorian of the McDermott HS class of 1948 on May 6th--the same day she married Glen. They moved to Dayton and later lived in Portsmouth and Lucasville before Glen entered into the ministry. His appointments with the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church took them to Gettysburg, Pomeroy, Lucasville and Frankfort, where they chose to live in retirement until 2010 when they relocated to Cincinnati. During their marriage, Belle worked at the A-Plant in Piketon, Mitchell Lace in Portsmouth and Harts Department Stores in Portsmouth and Chillicothe. Belle was a caring, compassionate, selfless person who worked tirelessly ministering to the needs of others without regard for her own concerns or priorities. Following Glens death, Belle moved to the Lodge of Montgomery where she thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship and activities provided by that community. Belle died on the 71st anniversary of her first date with Glena Christmas party at their church in Scioto County, Ohio.
