Avon Stanley of Goshen, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on September 26, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born on April 15, 1937, in Clintwood, Virginia, Avon was the cherished son of the late Walker and Hester (Phipps) Stanley. He proudly served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Anita (Mullins) Stanley; his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Stanley; and his brother, Ivan Stanley.

Avon was a devoted dad to Chris Stanley, Cheryle (Chuck) Radeke, and Greg (Sarah) Stanley. He was a loving Pappaw to Ellen (Garrett) Mullins, Emily Stanley, Morgan (Seth) Eastham, Matthew Radeke, Rebecca Stanley, Hannah Meddings, and Amber (Patrick) O’Sheal. He was also a proud Great-Pappaw to Noah, Henry, Theo, Aspen, Sadie, Blakeley, Seth Jr., and Cillian.

He was a devoted uncle to Scott (Paula) Stanley, Kevin (Lena) Meade, Barry (Johanna) Meade, and Bryan (Kristi) Meade. Avon is also survived by numerous relatives and many dear friends whose lives were brightened by his personality, wit, and charm.

Family and friends will be received from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 1668 State Route 28, Goshen, Ohio.

Interment will take place at Levi Cantrell Cemetery in Pound, Virginia.

Avon’s legacy of creating special moments and fond memories, along with his deep devotion to family and friends, will be treasured and remembered by all who knew him.
