Cincinnati -- Arthur "Art" Mackenzie Burrill passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Twin Lakes. Born on October 13, 1927, in Wakefield, Massachusetts, Art enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the fall of 1944. He received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1950 and master's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1953. Art married Irma Carolyn Hodgdon in 1953, and the couple relocated to Cincinnati so that Art could begin his career at Procter & Gamble, where he contributed to the Tide team and helped develop the color of Jif peanut butter. An avid sailor, Art raced his Thistle with his daughters at Hueston Woods. Later, he enjoyed sailing his Erickson locally, in Florida, and in New York with his entire family and served as a Lieutenant Commander and Squadron Education Officer for the Cincinnati Power Squadron. Also an amateur photographer, Art took great joy in producing portraits of his family and his five golden retrievers, whom he trained to pose for birthday pictures before eating ice cream. Art was preceded in death by his first wife, Irma, and his second wife, Allurie. He is survived by his daughters, Amy (Richard) McPike and Sara (Terry) Bradford, and Allurie's son, Mike Wells. He leaves behind five grandchildren: Nick and Austin Bradford, Erin and Jonathan McPike, and Gene Wells. The family will always lovingly remember family gatherings and vacations with Art, including an all-hands-on-deck sailing cruise on a schooner off the coast of Maine for Art's ninetieth birthday. Visitation will be held at Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home in Loveland on Friday, May 28, 2021, from 3-5 pm. Graveside service and burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cincinnati Sharonville SPCA or the American Diabetes Association.
