Obituary

Anthony "Tony" Hunter, Of Cincinnati. Son of the late Vincent Lee Morton and Laura Lee Hunter. Loving father and father-in-law of Quinten & Christina Goode and India Jamila Hunter. Devoted brother and brother in-law of Regina Ann Hunter, Janice & Charlie Dews, Charlene Hunter and the late Frank Hunter. Stepbrother of Stephanie Morton, Angie Morton, and Eric Morton. Dear Uncle to Kareem Stokes, Ashley Hunter, Frank Hunter, Alexa Dews, and Kayla Hunter. Also Survived by extended family, and many friends. Tony passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family Tuesday June 11, 2024, age 64.

He was a loving and devoted Son, Father, Brother and Uncle. He had a special close-knit bond with all his relatives who loved and was very proud of him. The relationship between mother and son was precious. He had a host of great friends that he loved and stayed connected to all across the country.

Tony graduated from Moeller High School in 1979. He was a proud and cherished family member of the" Moeller Family". Tony was an Athletic member of Archbishop Moeller High School (Football, Basketball, Track), Notre Dame University Graduate and football, NFL Buffalo Bills, and NFL Los Angeles Rams. Tony was a member of the Archbishop Moeller High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a Visitation for Tony Friday June 21, 2024, 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Archbishop Moeller High School Gymnasium, 9001 Montgomery Rd Cincinnati, Ohio 45242. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday June 22, 2024, All Saints Catholic Church 8939 Montgomery Road Cincinnati, Ohio 45236 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery near his mother. Family request that memorial contributions be directed to Archbishop Moeller High School Tuition Assistance Fund in name of Tony Hunter.

Tony Hunter – a high school All-American at Archbishop Moeller in Cincinnati, a first-team All-American as a senior at Notre Dame and first-round draft choice by the Buffalo Bills.

Hunter was a 6-foot-4, 237-pound tight end who played his prep football under Gerry Faust. He played his first two seasons at Notre Dame under head coach Dan Devine and his last two under Faust, who succeeded Devine in 1981.

Wearing No. 85, Hunter was an instant success with the Irish. He paced the '79 squad in receiving yards as a freshman with 690 on just 27 receptions for a dazzling 25.6 yards per catch. Hunter led the Irish in receiving yards in 1979-80 and receptions in 1980-81-82.

Hunter caught 23 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns in 1980, 28 for 387 yards and two scores in 1981, and 42 for 507 yards in 1982. The Newspaper Enterprise Association selected him as a first-team All-American following his senior season.

All told, Hunter caught 120 passes for 1,897 yards, a 15.8-yard average and five touchdowns in a Notre Dame uniform.

He played collegiately for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish where, as a senior, he was honored by the Newspaper Enterprise Association as a first team All American.

Hunter was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the first-round (12th overall) of the 1983 NFL Draft, two picks ahead of Jim Kelly He split his four-year NFL career between the Bills and the Los Angeles Rams accumulating 134 receptions for 1501 yards with 9 touchdowns. His final season in 1986 was cut short due to a career ending leg injury.
