Obituary

Anne Mitchell Taylor, passed away Wednesday the 22nd of April, 2020 at the age of 88 in Cincinnati. Born on the 15th of September, 1931, Anne was the youngest of the four daughters of Francis and Jean Graydon Mitchell. She attended the Summit Country Day School, Hillsdale School, and graduated from Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut in 1950. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Cincinnati in 1954. In 1957, Anne married James Jared ("Jerry") Taylor of Wyoming, Ohio. Jerry preceded her in death in 2014, after 57 years of marriage. Together they raised three children in Cincinnati, James Jared Taylor, III (Brooke) of Desert Hot Springs, California, Lawrence Maxwell Taylor (Sheilah) of Rockville, Maryland, and Jessica Graydon Taylor (John Fort) of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Symara Stone, Charlotte, Owen and Lily Taylor, and Liam and Samuel Neary, and her sister, Barbara Erskine of Essex, Connecticut. After a career in real estate, Anne's job as editor for Indian Hill Living Magazine combined her passion for people, her community and writing. Always known for her wit and observational humor, Anne published a book of her essays entitled, Off the Wall and Still Bouncing. She was a third generation board member of the May Festival which was founded, in part, by her great-grandfather, Lawrence Maxwell. Anne sang with the May Festival Chorus for over forty years, and performed in Carnegie Hall as well as several cities in Europe. On Sunday mornings, she could be heard singing with the Indian Hill Church Choir. Anne truly cared about helping others. She was a reader for Radio Reading Services, making media available to the blind and visually impaired. Because of Anne, the Taylor home was always filled with laughter, music, social gatherings, and numerous pets of various species. Anne will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor, wide smile, and enthusiasm for life. One of her many mottos was "Life is short. Eat dessert first!" She and Jerry loved spending summers on Nantucket Island with their children, grandchildren, and various dogs. Anne was preceded in death by her sisters Marjorie Maguire and Jean Bahlman. A small family service will take place at the Indian Hill Church, followed by a memorial in the summer of 2020. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Cincinnati Arts Association, 650 Walnut St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45202 in support of Music Hall.
