Obituary

Ann Palmer Myers, age 92, passed away on October 14, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of love, family, education, creativity, and service to others.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 8, 1934, Ann graduated from Horace Mann High School in Gary, Indiana. She continued her education at Northwestern University, where she earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree in Speech, completing the latter in 1957. During her years at Northwestern, she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority and Mortar Board, the national collegiate honor society recognizing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. In 1956, Ann served as President of Northwestern University's Panhellenic Council, demonstrating the leadership and determination that would characterize her throughout her life. She also served as co-chair of Northwestern's renowned Waa-Mu Show, the university's celebrated student musical revue. Ann was also a member of the Beta Rho Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority in Gary, Indiana.

In 1959, Ann married Jay Myers, beginning a partnership that would span 67 years and take them through many chapters of life together.

Ann's professional life reflected her intellectual curiosity, versatility, and dedication to improving the lives of others. In late 1957, she joined the faculty of Kent State University in Ohio, where she established a program for preschool children with hearing impairments. She remained on the faculty until 1973, when she and her husband, Jay, embarked on a new chapter by purchasing The Columbus News, a weekly newspaper in Columbus, Montana, now known as the Stillwater County News. During their years as newspaper owners, Ann wrote an award-winning column titled Ramblin'. Her work in journalism demonstrated her talent for writing, her keen observations, and her ability to connect with readers.

During the 1980s, Ann worked as a speech pathologist at TradeWinds School in Northwest Indiana, where she made a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of countless children and their families. Through her work, she helped children develop their communication skills and confidence, providing encouragement, compassion, and support that extended well beyond the classroom. Her dedication to helping children find their voices remains an especially meaningful part of her legacy.

Ann was a formidable competitor who loved to win at just about everything, whether it was a spirited card game or a lively political debate. Sharp-minded, determined, and never one to shy away from a challenge, she brought enthusiasm and conviction to every contest. Those who knew her understood that Ann played to win, and that a good argument was often just as enjoyable to her as a good game.

In retirement, Ann made her home in Loveland, Ohio, where she enjoyed the companionship of family and friends. Surrounded by those she loved, she cherished time spent together and the enduring friendships that enriched her later years.

Above all, Ann cherished her marriage to Jay and the loving family they built together. Their 67 years of marriage were at the heart of a family that grew to include four children, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. For all her accomplishments and competitive spirit, it was the love and connection of family that meant the most to her.

Ann is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Jay Myers; their four children, Palmer Myers (Barbara), Elizabeth “Libby” Rodriguez, Warner A. “Drew” Myers (Kim), and Mary Kate Samaniego (Mark); and nine grandchildren, Joshua, Richard, Ezequiel “Zeke”, Alex, Elizabeth “Lizzie”, Ross, Simon, Zoe, and Aidan. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Gertrude “Billie” Redwitz Palmer, and her cherished aunt, Mary Redwitz.

Throughout her 92 years, Ann embraced a life distinguished by learning, creativity, professional accomplishment, and devotion to family. From co-chairing musical theater at Northwestern University to teaching at Kent State, writing her award-winning column in Montana, and helping children find their voices at TradeWinds, she brought her talents and determination to each chapter of her life.

Her legacy lives on through the family she and Jay built together, the friendships she nurtured, and the many lives she touched.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
