Beautiful, compassionate, infectious humor. These are the words used repeatedly to describe Ann Moser-Batterson, Ph.D. who passed away in her home on September 21, 2013. She will long be remembered for the many lives she touched, in her work as a Clinical Psychologist, in her leadership at Grace Presbyterian Church, and through her warmth and generous laughter with friends and family. Ann was born in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1959. The daughter of a Naval Chaplain, she moved extensively as a youth until her family settled during her high school years in Bridgeton, Maine. She was an accomplished pianist, a fact that was kept hidden from many, likely due to her vast humility in her many ventures. She excelled at all things academic, receiving her Bachelor's degree, Phi Beta Kappa in Psychology from the University of Maine. Ann graduated Suma Cum Laude with her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cincinnati in 1990. Ann was a well-respected clinical psychologist who worked with children and families in the Cincinnati area for over 25 years. She began her career at Child Focus, Inc. and moved quickly through the administrative ranks, eventually becoming Clinical Director. During her tenure at this agency she was a strong leader in the Clermont County Crisis Response Team, offering immediate crisis services within schools and communities when a tragedy or disaster struck. She is well-remembered for her work improving relationships among child-serving agencies in Clermont County. In addition, Ann was instrumental each year in assuring that staff was provided a yearly Thanksgiving feast, a form of giving that reflected her warm heart and generous spirit.
Upon leaving Child Focus, Inc. Ann became a staff psychologist at Cincinnati Children's Hospital where she helped countless families and inspired colleagues with her creativity and sense of humor. The children and families who were her clients, felt in Ann a continual passion and commitment to their well-being and success, leaving a lasting impact on their lives and families.
Ann became an ordained ruling elder at Grace Presbyterian Church. She served on the Personnel Committee and the Ministry Planning and Review Team, was a member of the Coordinating team for the Journey of Transformation and moderated the Vision Panel at the church. Ann led a course on Spiritual gifts, helping people discern their contributions to the Body of Christ and the church's work in the world. Perhaps most importantly, Ann was the person who unfailingly greeted all persons leaving worship, always with a kind word and gracious smile, reaching especially to new members, remembering all from week-to-week.
A brief summary of life accomplishments and achievements, cannot adequately express the beauty of spirit that surrounded Ann's presence. To know her was to be embraced by her acceptance and love; to spend time with her was to be filled with laughter and peace. We are all better people for having known her. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jay Batterson; step-son, Jeremy Batterson, mother, Mel Moser, brother David Moser, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends from all over the world, all of whom she loved immensely.
