Alice N. Stein, 85, was released into the arms of her Lord, on March 24, 2015 after a long, fruitful life. She was born on June 6, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, NE, the daughter of Sylvester and Magdalen Heimann Niebur. Alice met her husband, Robert S. Stein, while working at North American Aviation, in Los Angeles, CA. They were wed On April 27, 1957 and enjoyed 57 years together. Alice worked as a homemaker and a bookkeeper. In 1981, Bob and Alice pulled up their stakes in Sacramento and moved to Maine where they purchased and operated the Greenville Inn near Moosehead Lake before retiring to Belfast, ME and then moving to Northport, ME. Alice was active in the community, being a long time member of the Belfast Curling Club, and a volunteer at the Belfast Free Library and the Northport Library. Throughout her life, Alice had a passion for cooking, reading, playing bridge, doing crosswords and gardening. Alice and Bob enjoyed renovating old houses, restoring charm and character to many Victorian homes. More recently, as their health declined, they left Maine and moved to Maineville, OH to be near their daughter. Alice was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Verdene Langford of Bettendorf, IA. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert, and her daughters Lu Ann (David) Kanavy of Morrow, OH and Sue Ellen (David) White of Elizabeth, CO, a brother Mark J. Niebur of Malta, MT, and two sisters Bernadette Murphy of Bettendorf, IA, and Evelyn C. Anderson of Rock Island, IL. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Anna (Ben) Roberts, Rebecca (Tyler) Durnell, Daniel (Katharine) White, Elizabeth (Alvin) Jeffers and Sarah Kanavy, and four great-grandchildren. Visitation is with Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home in Loveland, OH on March 30, 2015 between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH.
