Albert James ("Jim") Carson of Maineville, OH passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on December 12 at the age of 78. A loving father and husband, Jim was born December 23, 1942 in Wellsboro, PA to Albert and Irene Case Carson. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Adelaide Kueper Carson, and sons Edward and Mark Carson. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margo (née Loessel) Carson, daughters Laura and Leslie, and beloved cat, Catnis.
Jim moved to Cincinnati when he was 3 years old, where he attended Cardinal Pacelli School and was a proud member of the St. Xavier High School Class of '61. He attended the University of Dayton before transferring to the University of Cincinnati and graduated with a B.F.A. in Communications in 1966. After graduation, Jim worked for many years in customer service and sales.
Jim's interests were "planes, trains, and automobiles." He was a licensed private pilot who flew Piper Cubs at Red Stewart Airport, as well as Cessnas to visit family in IL and PA. Jim also flew gliders and belonged to the Caesar Creek Soaring Club. Jim tried (and failed) to share his passion for flying with Margo; one of their first dates was flying aerobatics over Waynesville. He recently restored his 1973 MGB and loved to drive along county roads with the top down. Jim was active in the British Car Club of Greater Cincinnati and the MG Car Club Southwestern Ohio Centre.
After retiring, Jim began working at what he called the "best job [he] ever had," as an entertainment conductor for the Cincinnati Railway Company on the Cincinnati Dinner Train and the Lebanon, Mason & Monroe Railroad. He was a certified locomotive engineer and ran steam trains for several summers at Kings Island. Jim loved to design and build model railroads and help his friends with their own layouts.
A World War II history buff, Jim also built scale models of aircraft and armored vehicles. His models have been displayed at the U.S. Air Force Museum, the Cincinnati Public Library, and at the 8th Air Force Society Convention. He was a member of the Cincinnati Scale Modelers.
Jim was outgoing and made many friends with similar interests in planes, trains, and automobiles and loved to talk about modeling or railroading with anyone who expressed interest. He also maintained friendships of over 60 years with several childhood friends. He will be missed by many.
